NRW Coronavirus Emergency Assistance Program
As you have likely already seen in the media, the federal and state governments intend to support small and medium-sized enterprises across all sectors of the economy, as well as self-employed individuals, freelancers, and entrepreneurs, during the COVID-19 crisis.
Essentially, the plan is to provide emergency aid in the form of a one-time, non-repayable grant.
The emergency aid is tiered according to the number of employees and totals the following amounts for three months:
- 9,000 euros for eligible self-employed individuals and eligible applicants with up to 5 employees,
- €15,000 for eligible applicants with up to 10 employees,
- €25,000 for eligible applicants based in North Rhine-Westphalia with up to 50 employees
We would like to provide you with more detailed information on how to apply for the grants so that you can quickly access these funds.
Please note that applications can be submitted via an electronic application form starting March 27, 2020. The link to the website with the electronic application forms will be provided on Friday:
The application process can only be completed online. Printed applications will not be processed. The applicant will receive an automated confirmation of receipt.
It has also been announced that all applications will be processed in the order they are received (first-come, first-served basis). We therefore advise you to consider in advance whether you meet the application requirements.
If this is the case, you should gather the information required for the application in advance so that you can complete the online application on Friday without delay.
Sample Application Form
We have provided a sample of the application form via the following link. According to the state government in North Rhine-Westphalia, the application form may still undergo minor changes.
As part of the application process, you will be asked, among other things, about the type of commercial or freelance activity (so-called economic classification). You can find an overview of the individual classifications of economic sectors here.
